AliExpress Opens New Distribution Center in Mexico to Improve Logistics and Cut Delivery Times

  • Cainiao, responsible for AliExpress’ logistics, has begun operations at a new distribution center (CEDIS) in Tultepec, aiming to optimize delivery times to Mexico and improve logistical efficiency with automated technology.

  • Mexico is a key market for AliExpress, which currently occupies nearly 4,400 square meters of gross leasable area (GLA) in Tultipark III in the State of Mexico.

Cainiao, the logistics company responsible for AliExpress’ global shipping, has strategically chosen Tultepec, State of Mexico, just 30 kilometers from the Benito Juárez International Airport, as the location for its new distribution center (CEDIS). This decision was based on the area's accessible transportation routes, which will significantly enhance nationwide delivery efficiency.

According to SiiLA data, in March of this year, AliExpress leased approximately 4,400 square meters of gross leasable area (GLA) at Tultipark III, a Class A property that entered the market in 2018. The building features a ceiling height of 9.5 meters, multiple loading docks, and a cross-dock system for receiving and sorting goods, making it ideal for logistical operations.

With this new distribution center, AliExpress will be able to reduce delivery times, allowing products from China to reach Mexico in as little as 12 business days. The center will also serve as a distribution point for other group subsidiaries, such as Tmall and TaoBao.

Mexico has emerged as a pivotal market for AliExpress, witnessing a remarkable 50% surge in shipments during the first quarter of 2022 compared to the previous year. This robust growth has spurred the need for enhanced logistical processes, and the new center will integrate automated technology that will escalate sorting and processing efficiency by up to 10%.

Cainiao has also expanded its air cargo network, operating eight weekly charter flights connecting China with Latin America, with routes to São Paulo (Brazil) and Santiago (Chile). This is in response to the growing demand for products such as daily goods, clothing, and electronics, which are top sellers on its platforms.

As the demand for logistical spaces grows and companies like AliExpress expand in Mexico, the commercial real estate market continues to evolve rapidly. Explore SiiLA Market Analytics to learn more about this market and its key tenants.
