Reuters: The Italian premium brake manufacturer Brembo, known for supplying automotive companies such as Tesla and Ferrari, plans to expand one of its factories in the state of Nuevo León, according to state government officials. Since 2015, the company has been operating in the border region near the state of Texas, employing 1,150 people at its plant located in the municipality of Escobedo, as reported by the government in a statement.
Brembo aims to double the size of the factory and open around the second quarter of 2023, according to an informed source who spoke to Reuters. The company also has another factory in the nearby city of Apodaca.
"The advancements they're making in brakes and digital braking systems are impressive," stated Governor Samuel García of Nuevo León during an event with Brembo executives in Italy.
So far, Brembo has not responded to requests for comments on the matter.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk visited the border state in October, and sources informed Reuters that the company is considering investing there.
This week, Mexican media outlet Milenio reported that Tesla could announce new plans in the region in early 2023. However, Tesla has not immediately responded to requests for comments.
