HL Express has inaugurated the expansion of its hub in Mexico City (CDMX) with an investment of 118 million pesos (mdp), which will enable the processing of up to 5,200 shipments per hour. This initiative aims to address the lack of connectivity in the southern part of the country, and a connection with Santa Lucía airport is expected to be established in the future.

According to Antonio Arranz, CEO of DHL in Mexico, the increase in shipment capacity will greatly benefit the southern region, which is in dire need of better logistics infrastructure. "By increasing our cargo volume by 20%, we will optimize our operations and improve connections everywhere," he commented. DHL Express' distribution center in CDMX began operating between 2017 and 2018.

After its remodeling, the area expanded to 4,800 square meters and incorporated cutting-edge technology to process packages of various sizes. Arranz highlighted that this expansion is a demonstration of DHL's commitment, as they have invested 6,000 mdp since 2020. In 2022, they allocated 1,200 mdp to improve cargo connections through the hubs.

The DHL Express hub in CDMX has been recognized as a technological innovation by the Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the transportation, postal, and storage sector stood out due to the surge in e-commerce driven by the lockdown.

According to the authorities in the capital city, this sector accounts for 7% of CDMX's GDP, and in 2021, it experienced growth of over 10% in terms of formal employment, with approximately 37,443 people working in the industry. Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized the city's potential for the sector, as it ranks first in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) nationwide.

During the inauguration of the new facilities, she expressed gratitude to DHL for their role as the country's main vaccine provider. Mike Parra, CEO of DHL Express Americas, noted that CDMX has a strong economic development, underscoring the importance of investing in manufacturing and logistics.
