In the midst of residential, commercial, and office buildings, the bustling city dwellers of Mexico City (CDMX) are observed by The Eye of Mexico, a sculptural piece that uses artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to convey demographic, environmental, and urban data.
This living metal ring, standing at ten meters tall, visually interprets the behaviors of the vibrant present and future vision of the capital through a performance. The grand "Eye" is part of the new urban community Neuchâtel Cuadrante Polanco, a project by real estate developer MIRA, with creative leadership from global consulting agency MASSIVart and the Turkish studio Ouchhh.
The sculpture was first illuminated on May 20, 2022, and now resides in the public square of the mixed-use complex. Here, people can enjoy direct access to green spaces and local businesses while discovering the interconnectedness between art, science, technology, urbanism, and mobility.
The Eye of Mexico draws inspiration from various aspects of CDMX's lifestyle, such as air quality, noise levels, population, vegetation, and emissions. It aims to depict a portrait of the metropolis's energy by integrating millions of data points through AI systems and machine learning algorithms. This fusion results in a scientific visualization with an artistic touch, emphasizing the interplay between these elements.
