General Motors, the American manufacturer, has announced exciting developments regarding its foray into the electric vehicle market in Mexico. The company revealed that its first battery-produced model in the country will be a fully electric version of its popular SUV, the Blazer.
This thrilling release is destined for the markets of the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and will be manufactured at the Ramos Arizpe plant in Coahuila starting in 2023. In April 2021, General Motors made a significant investment of $1 billion to recondition a section of its complex for the production of fully electric vehicles.
Since 2018, the plant had already been manufacturing a gasoline version of the Blazer SUV, but now it embarks on the exciting adventure of electric mobility. The new electric model, known as the Blazer EV, will be built on the innovative Ultium platform.
The production of this vehicle has prompted an increase in the installation of suppliers in the vicinity of the complex, including industry giants like LG Electronics and Magna.
These companies have opened a plant in Ramos Arizpe this year to manufacture various key components for General Motors' electric vehicle. In a statement, General Motors has announced that exports of the Blazer EV to the United States and Canada will commence in the summer of 2023, while it will arrive in Mexico during the last quarter of the same year.
This news promises an exciting transformation in the automotive landscape of the region. Moreover, the Blazer EV will offer a captivating lineup of versions, including the 1LT, 2LT, and RS models. But that's not all; there will also be a high-performance version called the SS. Efforts are even underway to create a special adaptation of the vehicle for use as a pursuit vehicle in US law enforcement services.
