Grupo Bimbo, the largest bakery in Latin America and one of the top ten in the world, plans to invest approximately $50 million in 2023 to enhance and develop projects in its Azcapotzalco plant in Mexico City on its 50th anniversary. The Bimbo Azcapotzalco plant operates nine production lines, managed by a workforce of 950, supplying the markets of Mexico City, Estado de México, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Veracruz, and Yucatán.
Apart from the plant, Grupo Bimbo owns two Class A industrial warehouses in the Vallejo-Azcapotzalco submarket, covering approximately 44,000 square meters, according to SiiLA Market Analytics data. The bakery's upcoming modifications include sustainability and environmental improvements, along with innovation to make the warehouses smarter.
Miguel Ángel Espinoza Ramírez, the General Director of Bimbo in Mexico, stated that the firm has already commenced installing a new croissant (or Danish bread) production line, creating 80 temporary jobs during construction and 50 permanent positions upon completion.
Mexico City's Mayor, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, remarked that her administration and Grupo Bimbo have "several joint projects for the benefit of the city." One of the projects is with the Ministry of Economic Development ("Te Conecta"), which aims to enhance sales at the various Bimbo purchase points through a digitalization process.
Grupo Bimbo, established in 1972, operates in 33 countries across four continents, with over 200 bakeries and production facilities, more than 1.6 thousand centers, and 3.3 million sale points. In the Mexico City market, the conglomerate possesses at least 12 Class A and B industrial warehouses for its product's production, storage, and distribution. These sites cover over 124 thousand square meters combined, with two in the Vallejo-Azcapotzalco submarket, three in the Cuautitlán-Tultitlán-Tepotzotlán logistics corridor, one in Huehuetoca, two in Tlalnepantla, two in Toluca-Lerma, and two more in the Naucalpan submarket.
