Lakeland is commencing the construction of its first plant in Nuevo Leon, representing a $5 million investment that will generate 400 new jobs.
The facility will be situated in the municipality of Guadalupe and will specialize in the manufacturing of protective and safety clothing. Lakeland's CEO, Roberson, emphasized the significance of proximity in enhancing supply chain resilience.
That is why Nuevo Leon was chosen as the location, aiming to bolster long-term growth plans. This industrial clothing manufacturing project is a result of nearshoring, which entails the relocation of plants from Asia to leverage the advantages of the USMCA. Furthermore, it presents an opportunity for diversification within the textile sector.
In Mexico, the company already has facilities in Zacatecas, and globally, it operates factories in Argentina, China, India, and Vietnam. It is important to highlight that the global market for personal protective equipment has witnessed consistent growth due to the increasing awareness of workplace safety, particularly in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
