With an investment of 150 million pesos, Michelin will install the first truck tire retreading plant in Querétaro, Mexico, serving both Mexico and Central America. Additionally, the company will expand its production line of BF Goodrich tires, further strengthening sustainable mobility and its presence in the region.
This investment in the retreading plant, which will generate 200 specialized jobs, is a testament to our commitment to the circular economy and environmental responsibility, stated Matthieu Aubron, President and CEO of
Michelin Mexico and Central America.
Through this initiative, the lifespan of truck tires will be extended by reusing the casings two or three times. Renewing 100 tires saves the emission of 2.6 tons of CO2. Consequently, Querétaro continues to establish itself as a pioneer in environmental matters.
This year,
Michelin also announced the expansion of its plant in León, Guanajuato, with a $400 million investment and the creation of over 600 jobs. "Twenty years ago, Michelin found its first operational home in Mexico and Central America," expressed Aubron during the investment announcement at the 20th edition of the Mexico Business Summit.
Governor
Mauricio Kuri González of Querétaro recognized that job creation is the most effective social program for a state, expressing gratitude to the French company for opening specialized positions in the region.
Furthermore, Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero, Secretary of Sustainable Development for the state, highlighted that Michelin participates in Querétaro's circular economy chain and its operations are aligned with the decarbonization strategy.
"I emphasize
Michelin's commitment to research and development, environmental project management, and project mapping, as these principles align with the state's environmental agenda and ensure responsible and circular manufacturing," stated the Secretary.
The production of tires in the country witnessed a year-on-year growth of 16.7% from January to July this year, contributing over $1 billion to the economy.
France and Querétaro, commercial allies
France stands as Querétaro's second-largest trading partner, attracting $145 million in foreign investment in the first half of the year.
In terms of project portfolio, two investments totaling 149 million pesos from France have been realized, generating 211 job positions and adding to the existing 61 companies in Querétaro.
