Prologis Park Grande's Building Seven in the Cuautitlan, Tultitlan, and Tepotzotlan (CTT) logistics corridor of Mexico City's industrial market has become the first industrial building in Latin America to obtain BOMA Best GOLD certification, according to an announcement made by Prologis yesterday.
Prologis is a firm specializing in acquiring, developing, and managing commercial real estate. According to SiiLA Market Analytics, the class A building boasts a gross leasable area (GLA) of over 32,000 square meters and is certified by the Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada (BOMA).
BOMA Best is Canada's most significant voluntary environmental assessment and certification program. Since 2005, more than 7,000 commercial buildings have been certified or recertified through this program. BOMA Best assesses ten critical areas of environmental performance and management, including water, air, procurement, comfort, energy, cleanliness, waste, health and wellness, as well as site and stakeholder engagement.
The BOMA Best GOLD certification is awarded to buildings that meet environmental "best practices" and are between 80% and 89% compliant with the environmental performance and management standards assessed by the program.
In addition to this recognition, Prologis Park Grande's Building Seven also earned LEED BD+C certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in February 2019. According to Prologis, "in the last year, FIBRA Prologis has optimized the efficiency of our buildings by certifying almost 8 million square feet."
BOMA has recognized 48 Prologis properties with environmental certifications between 2019 and 2021. Of these recognitions, 32 are basic or "Certified," and correspond to compliance with environmental performance and management standards of no more than 19%. These properties are in Mexico City, Cuautitlan Izcalli, Estado de Mexico, and Tepotzotlan. The remaining 16 properties, located in Ciudad Juarez, Estado de Mexico, and Tepotzotlan, obtained BOMA Best Silver certification, which is awarded to buildings with between 50% and 79% compliance.
