Rugged Tech, a subsidiary of U.S. apparel manufacturer Carhartt, is set to invest 42 million pesos in Querétaro to establish an Information Technology (IT) Support Center. The facility will provide logistical support to Carhartt's Mexican, U.S., European, and Asian headquarters.

Apart from catering to Carhartt's corporate offices, Rugged Tech's new center will also house IT operational and cybersecurity response facilities. The company considers Querétaro a "key state for the technology industry" and a strategic location for the IT market.

According to SiiLA Market Analytics, the area occupied per tenant in the IT sector increased by almost 15% between 2020 and 2022, from 6.8 thousand to 7.8 thousand square meters in Queretaro's office market.

The IT Support Center will start with 38 employees, increasing by 50% as Rugged Tech fills positions designed for IT-related specialists. Linda Hubbard, director and president of Carhartt, stated during the inauguration of the facilities that "Mexican talent will be key to the growth of the company in the coming years", and they intend to "contribute to the development of the state and young talent."

To this end, the company announced a plan to form an alliance with the education sector, which will include a program to support and train recent graduates of IT-related careers from leading universities in Querétaro.

During the inauguration event of the IT Support Center, Marco Antonio del Prete Tercero, Secretary of Sustainable Development of the entity, shared that the IT sector linked to manufacturing production in Queretaro generated an economic revenue of more than 11.4 billion pesos in the first 11 months of 2022.
