Last week, Scantibodies Laboratory (SLI) broke ground on a new building named "Alegria" in Valle Redondo, Baja California's Tijuana real estate market. The U.S. medical device manufacturer will invest over $80 million to construct a 130,000 square meter plant on a two-hectare site. These facilities will create over 1,000 jobs.
According to industrial developer FINSA, the investment will include building an industrial facility with controlled temperature. SLI's president and founder, Thomas Leslie Cantor, stated that the "Alegria" building will be used to produce tests for disease prevention and diagnosis.
During the construction works' inauguration, Baja California's Secretary of Economy and Innovation, Kurt Honold Morales, noted that SLI's clinical diagnostic tests have enabled the timely treatment of illnesses. They expect the company's presence to improve the local population's quality of life.
In the last two years, the pharmaceutical and healthcare industrial sector has grown in Baja California's Tijuana real estate market. SiiLA Market Analytics data reveals an 8% increase in the square footage occupied by pharmaceutical companies and a 3.4-fold increase in healthcare-related businesses from 2019 to 2022.
