WeWork, the coworking company, has announced a strategic partnership (joint venture) with SoftBank Latin America Fund, which will exclusively operate the shared workspace brand in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Colombia. This agreement aims to enhance WeWork's position in the market by leveraging the fund's local operational expertise to cater to companies seeking flexible workspace solutions in Latin America. SoftBank's deep understanding of the global and local technology landscape, along with its expanding investment ecosystem in the region, makes it the perfect partner for WeWork.
The real estate companies focused on shared spaces faced declining sales in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The measures taken to restrict mobility and prevent the spread of the virus led people to work from home and abandon coworking spaces. However, WeWork's partnership with SoftBank provides strong financial backing and demonstrates their commitment to optimizing international markets with local capital and operational experience.
