UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, has opened an office in Mexicali, Baja California, expanding its capacity to contribute to the country's efforts in providing comprehensive protection for children and adolescents. The goal is to improve support for their physical and emotional well-being, promote alternative care models when necessary, and foster subnational compliance with the rights of this important population.
In 2019, UNICEF Mexico opened its first office in Baja California, specifically in the city of Tijuana. Over the past three years, they have been dedicated to protecting all children and adolescents, particularly those who are most vulnerable, such as migrant children.
Through collaborative efforts with the state government, this new office, generously provided by the state government as a symbol of cooperation, is located within the General Offices of DIF Baja California.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mónica Vargas Núñez, the General Director of DIF Baja California; Luis Fernando Carrera Castro, the UNICEF Representative in Mexico; Fernando Alonso Becerra, the Head of the UNICEF Office in Baja California; and Mavis Olmeda García, the President of the DIF Baja California Board of Trustees.
