Walmart dominates a significant portion of the supermarket sector with its four store lines: Bodega Aurrerá (the most popular), Walmart Supercenter, Sam's Club, and Superama. Altogether, they amount to nearly 2,700 supermarkets under the company's umbrella.

The second largest player in this market is Soriana, although significantly behind Walmart, with around 800 self-service stores across the country. Chedraui, Casa Ley, and La Comer complete the top five. In November 2020,

Walmart Mexico and Central America announced the disappearance of Superama stores, which were replaced by the Walmart Express brand.
