Navistar, a leading technology and services corporation in the trucking sector, will invest $120 million in the next three years to expand the vehicle cab painting area of its plant in the Escobedo submarket in Nuevo Leon. The Escobedo plant, which is claimed to be Navistar's largest production plant in the world, has an average manufacturing capacity of 50,000 units per year, generating 6.2 thousand direct jobs.
The Navistar plant is a Class A property, occupying 75,000 square meters in the VYNMSA Escobedo Park, with an extension of 110 hectares, according to SiiLA Market Analytics. The Escobedo plant has produced more than 850,000 commercial vehicles since its opening in 1998, including the only fully electric truck made in Mexico. The units produced at the plant are mainly exported to Canada and the United States.
Navistar's recent investment brings the total investment in the Escobedo plant to $462 million. The investment commitment over the next three years will enable Navistar to anticipate customer needs and market demand, as well as increase quality and sustainability efforts at the Escobedo plant, according to Navistar executives.
During the announcement of the investment, the Secretary of Economy of Nuevo Leon, Ivan Rivas Rodriguez, stated that "24 percent of the investments that came to Nuevo Leon during the past year correspond to the automotive industry."
