Earlier this month, Grupo Bimbo finalized the sale of its sweet products division, Ricolino, to Mondelēz International for approximately 27 billion pesos. This move is part of their goal to produce healthier bread and snacks while prioritizing environmental care in the face of climate change. The aim is for 100% of the agricultural products used in Grupo Bimbo's foods to come from soil and atmosphere-friendly practices by 2050.
Regenerative agriculture is a key part of Grupo Bimbo's sustainability strategy, which has shown outstanding results over the past four years. They have successfully reduced water usage by 9.7 million cubic meters and decreased carbon emissions by 1,065 tons.
According to Héctor Ibancovichi, the manager of Agrinomics at Grupo Bimbo, conventional agriculture practices account for 43% of global carbon emissions due to outdated tillage methods and the use of chemical fertilizers.
