The initiative would generate over 6,000 direct and indirect jobs in the second-largest Latin American economy, explained the e-commerce company. They further stated that this number would increase over time, without providing additional details. In the third quarter of the year, how did Mercado Libre perform? The e-commerce firm added that their cargo airplane fleet, launched under the name 'Meli Air,' has a capacity of 40 tons and will complement the network of commercial airlines that Mercado Libre already works with.

The new distribution centers are being added to the three storage centers - two in operation and one set to start activities this month - currently owned by the largest e-commerce platform in Latin America. In July, Mercado Libre announced a $27 million investment in the construction of a distribution center in Jalisco to expedite deliveries in the central region of Mexico during the pandemic. The company projected investing $420 million throughout 2020 in Mexico. According to the analytics firm Comscore, Mercado Libre surpassed the retail giant Amazon in terms of visitor numbers in Mexico until August.
