The iconic Estadio Azteca, which has hosted two FIFA World Cups, is undergoing a renovation that includes a mixed-use project with a hotel, shopping center, and parking facility. The goal is to maintain its significance as a major sports venue and to be a host for the 2026 World Cup.
According to reports, the project is set to begin in June 2020 and will be located in the area currently occupied by television mobile units. There are also plans to commercialize the stadium's name for this purpose, and a tunnel will be included to provide direct access to the locker room area.
The Estadio Azteca has undergone several previous renovations, including improvements to stands, press boxes, VIP areas, benches, turf, and lighting. This new transformation aims to further revitalize the venue and offer a complete experience with a combination of sports, commercial, and accommodation facilities.
