On Monday, Microsoft announced that its Data Center Region in Mexico will begin operations in the second half of 2023. This means that the servers and network equipment of the Data Center, which the technology company is finishing installing in Queretaro, will begin offering cloud services such as Azure, Office 365, and Dynamics 365 for customers in Mexico and Latin America.
Microsoft plans for its Queretaro Data Center to work with other facilities in various parts of the world, designed to provide cloud computing, data storage, and other related services through the Microsoft Azure platform.
This project, which required an investment of approximately $1.1 billion, will significantly impact Queretaro's industrial market. On one hand, Microsoft's presence in the Bajio region will attract other technology and data companies, creating new business and employment opportunities in the area, particularly with the boost of nearshoring in Mexico. In addition, Microsoft's cloud infrastructure will enable local companies to access advanced technologies, enhancing their efficiency and productivity.
With more technology and telecommunications companies in Bajio, the value of nearby real estate will increase as demand grows, making it more appealing for investment and business development. It will also trigger a demand for logistics services for the transportation of equipment and materials.
According to SiiLA Market Analytics' data, in the last two years, the occupation of square meters by companies in the information technology and telecommunications sectors increased by 50% in the industrial market of Queretaro.
On the other hand, Microsoft's presence in the Bajío may have a positive impact on education and the development of technological skills, as Bill Gates' company has announced plans to collaborate with local universities and offer training programs in technology and data.
Overall, the Microsoft Data Center is expected to catalyze the economic development of Queretaro and the surrounding areas.
Currently, Microsoft has more than 60 Data Center Regions worldwide, and the Mexico Data Center Region is the first in Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America. This Region has three availability zones in Queretaro, each with one or more data centers equipped with independent power, cooling, and networking.
The Data Center Region represents a further expansion of Microsoft's global cloud infrastructure. This is excellent news for Mexico because it will strengthen the country's connectivity infrastructure and drive digital transformation. This will also benefit businesses and the country's digital economy, fostering collaboration, progress, and innovation.
